Covenant - In Times Before The Light

More Norwegian black metal, but not nekro like Mayhem, this is a symphonic synth based classic by Covenant, or The Kovenant as they are known today. In Times Before The Light was released by a small label called Mordgrimm in 1995, and I think this was their only release. This is the original mix and straight from the original cd. Other version has also been released, a industrial circus version in 2002, with lots of new sounds and samples and a remastered version in 2007, with bonus tracks. I havent heard the latest one, so I cant comment on the sound. But the industrial circus version was a fun ride, and is worth checking out. Covenant released a couple of good albums after this on, but their latest was really bad and they are "working" on a follw-up, but dont get your hopes up, they have been "working" on that one for years, and I doubt we will hear it soon....

Mayhem - Pure Fucking Armaggedon

Warning: This recording is filthy and fucked up Norwegian black metal with über nekro sound and your ears may cry blood when listening to it.

Mayhem's first demo, Pure Fucking Armageddon, released in 1986. If you want this, you already know Mayhem and you don't need any introduction to them. If you don't know them, this is the wrong place to start, well, I'm not sure what the right one is, but you could try the legendary album De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas and read about them at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayhem_band.

The source for this rip is a cd bootleg made ca ten years ago.

Don't enjoy, suffer

The Meads of Asphodel - Jihad

British black metal with a middle eastern theme? Sure, and its awesome! They have used samples from prayers, tanks, classical music and more to make a short but sweet EP about Jihad and Islam. Not really sure what the message, if any, behind it all is supposed to be, but who cares, it sounds good.

It was released in 2002 on a split record with norwegian Mayhem.

Remember to stay away from religion, its better to die because of something fun.

Mundanus Imperium(aka Nattefall) - Ode to the Nightsky

I dont have much info on this band,I just know they are from Hamar, Norway. The Mundanus Imperium demo is great, mid 90's symphonic black metal, in the vein of Covenant, Dimmu Borgir and Arcturus. If you like symphonic, atmospheric black metal with hints of classical music, you will like this.

They got a record deal, but changed style, they got Jørn Lande on vocals and started to play power metal or something. They release one album in 1998 before they disbanded, called The Spectral Spheres Coronation. To bad the band didn't continue with the style from the demo, it could have been just as good as the bands i mentioned earlier.

From the cover:
"This is the re-press of the Nattefall "Ode to the Nightsky" demo'96."

Enjoy

Shining & Enslaved plays Armageddon - Nine Nights in Nothingness - Glimpses of Downfall

Extreme metal meets crazy jazz, the result is pretty far out.
This recording is from the Molde Jazz Festival 2008, and its a radio rip, so the quality is amazing. I have also included an interview with Jørgen Munkeby from Shining(its in norwegian). After touring together they got hired to do some commissioned music. They decided to make a piece about death, destruction and armageddon. Since its recorded from a radio broadcast, there are some chatter in between. Lets hope they release a live album or something. I decided to upload the concert as one big file, there is always something going on, so its kinda hard to make tracks out of it.

Clean out your ears and enjoy this crazy shit, its pretty unique.

Remember to check out both bands, especially Shinings latest album, BlackJazz.

Orcustus - Demo 2002

Orcustus - Demo 2002

Now, this is black metal(I think)!
Three great songs, nice and fitting sound, old school feel, a little black n roll, can the ears ask for more?

As the title says, this demo was released in 2002, only 1000x was pressed. The band is led by Taipan(vox) and with him is Enslaved's Dirge Rep(drums) and Infernus(bass) & Tormentor(guitar) known from Gorgoroth. Ivar Peersen produced the demo, with the band. All the music on this demo is written by Taipan.

The quality on this demo was so good the band ended up with a contract with the label Southern Lord Records. They released one selftitled album in 2009, also really good. If you enjoyed the demo, go buy the album, its worth the money.
They have also released two 7", Wrathrash in 2005 and World Dirtnap in 2003.

Im not sure if they are still active(lets hope so) and what todays lineup is, it has changed some since the demo was released.

One last thing, im looking for a decent cd ripper for my Mac, if you know of one, be cool and share it in the comments.

Thanks and "peace" out

My new blog and 666 Live II

Welcome, this is my first and may be my last blogpost.

First. The reason behind this blog, I was reading about Håvard Rem's book "Innfødte skrik", book about norwegian black metal, and to my understanding he writes that a band from tromsø called 666 was the first norwegian black metal band.
Im not sure if I agree, even if they are supposed to be some kind of first wave black metal(Venom, Celtic Frost etc), and not the black metal we know today(Darkthrone, Burzum, Emperor etc). Also, almost nobody has heard of this band, not even Greven, haha, to the point, I have some live recordings of this band that I want to share. Its recorded in 1982 and the sound sucks. But its fun and they have been mentioned in mr. Rem's book. Btw, I bought this cd for maybe 10 years ago, it was made in 1998. I may get hold of vol. 1 and vol. 3 and put them up to.

So i hope you enjoy these satanic punks from Tromsø.

Sorry about the crappy scans and my so called english.

If I end up posting more stuff, it will be some more rare and weird stuff.
Dont be afraid to leave a comment.

Almost forgot to explain the name, 99% of all records suck and you have to look hard to find what YOU like. You may or may not find it here,

Thank you for reading.
